Women over time have been silenced and have not been opportune to feature at the fore of societal activities.
The role of a woman has been minimalized and restricted over the years, but in recent times, more women have begun to come out, to speak up, and there has been more advocacy for women to be given an opportunity, to be empowered, in order to make a meaningful impact to her immediate environment and to contribute positively to the society.
Women play a very vital role in human progress and have a significant place in society. They are not inferior to men and are capable of sharing all the responsibilities of life. The main responsibility of a woman is to preserve the human race.
A woman has various roles, as she performs the role of wife, partner, organizer, administrator, director, re-creator, disburser, economist, mother, disciplinarian, teacher, health officer, artist, and queen in the family at the same time. Inasmuch as women the world over are the primary caretakers of young children, they play an important role in facilitating or hindering changes in family life.
The quality of life, character and human thinking of individuals are primarily shaped from an early age, in a home and majorly by a mother, a woman.
To have better-thinking individuals with character, we need to go back to the roots to look at things that can shape these individuals, the kind of teaching, culture, and values that are inculcated into these individuals, and the quality of the first teacher, which is the mother. In a well-structured home, the mother the father, i.e., the man and the woman, have equal responsibility in raising well-mannered individuals, but this responsibility mostly lies with the mother.
An empowered woman in this case will impact the quality of teaching and values imparted to her children and passed on to generations.
This is one of the reasons we talk about why women should be empowered.
To empower women is to give women rights. It is to encourage women to feel strong by telling them that they can do everything that they want to do. It is ensuring that they have equal rights to participate in education, society, economy, and politics.
And are free to choose their religion, language, work, and other activities. Women should be empowered so they can be able to earn money to support their families by working through their abilities, as some women are not confident to work in hard conditions or in a high position because they still determine that it’s not a woman’s job.
While we discuss about why women should be empowered, we can also use this opportunity to reiterate the importance of personal improvement on our businesses.
Empowering women is essential to the health and social development of families, communities, and countries, and vital for the achievement of sustainable development. When women are empowered and are living safe, productive, and fulfilled lives, they can reach their full potential, contribute their skills to the workforce, and can raise happier and healthier children.
Understanding the roles women perform will give a better understanding of why women should be empowered
Women are the primary caretakers of children and elders in every country of the world. They instruct, care for, and nurture. Most often, women are the prime initiator of outside assistance and play a vital role in facilitating (or hindering) changes in family life.
Women function as educators within the family, academically, morally, and otherwise. It is the mother in the family who most often urges children of both genders to attend, and stay in school. The role of women is at the fore of improvements leading to the family’s, and the community’s long-term capacity.
Women’s formal and informal labor can transform a community from a relatively autonomous society to a participant in the national economy.
Women should be empowered as their involvement in small businesses has enhanced the availability and accessibility of goods and services, increased economic profitability and governmental income, and enhanced economic growth.

Women should begin to be granted access to the right education as this is one of the fundamental means of empowering women.
Educating women empowers them with the knowledge, skill, and self-confidence necessary to participate fully in the development process. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in one of its articles asserts that “everyone has the right to education”.
Educated women are more likely to encourage a good education and inspire compassionate values in their own children in addition to their wider family.
Government bodies/agencies are to set up policies and programmes that will improve women’s access to secure livelihoods and economic resources, alleviate their extreme responsibilities with regard to housework, and remove legal impediments to their participation in public life.
They can also establish mechanisms for women’s equal participation and equitable representation at all levels of the political process and public life in each community and society, enabling women to articulate their concerns and needs, and making it possible, through laws, regulations, and other appropriate measures, for women to combine the roles of child-bearing, and breast-feeding with participation in the workforce.
There is a need to sensitize the society to eliminate all practices that discriminate and create violence against women; assisting women to establish and realize their rights, including those that relate to reproductive and sexual health.
The government is to create opportunities that allow women of child-bearing potential and the average woman to work and take care of their families.
Appropriate measures are to be adopted to improve women’s ability to earn income beyond traditional occupations, achieve economic self-reliance, and ensure women’s equal access to the labor market and social security systems.
Empowering women will enable them to function optimally within their roles in the family, community, and society at large. The following are some important reasons why women should be empowered;
Literacy of women is an important key to improving health, nutrition, and education in the family and to empowering women to participate in decision-making in society.
